Housing Inquiry
W.A.L.T: gathering information
Description: Every Wednesday we have been learning about the inquiry process while finding out about different houses around the world. First we chose a question and then researched to find the answer to our question. Our question was ‘What are houses like in India and why are they like this? Each group had to pick a country and inquiry into what their houses are like, present their findings in a Haiku Deck and then build their house in Minecraft.
Criteria:
I think I am Practitioner because I can look at a range of sources of information.

reading term 3 2014
My reading goal this term was to help people with a disability be indapendent.
WALT: help people with disabilities to be independent
GET IT...use a range of sources by questioning and predicting
SORT IT...analyse and sort information to answer my question: see if my thinking has changed, look for patterns by questioning inferring, summarising
USE IT…discuss what I have found out with others and make connections
TASK
inquiring readers go through a process to gather, organise and respond to new information. We have been using the ‘GET IT, SORT IT, USE IT’ process. After reading ‘Wonder’ by R.J.Palaccio our group felt moved to DO something but we didn’t know what! We all had lots of questions so we decided to research more about disabilities before deciding. I wanted to know more about:
To help people with disabilities to be independent.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
I can research using different sources.
I can think logically, creatively, and reflectively.
I can make generalisations from patterns and connections.
Did my thinking change or stay the same during the ‘GET IT’ stage?
Yes, it did change. There is a lot more equipment out there than I thought there would be. Like ipads that control wheelchairs and talk for you.
From ‘SORTING IT’ I can make these generalisations:
A disability can be something that is mental or physical.
People with disabilities want to be independent. They don't always want someone doing something for them.
They wanted to be treated the same as other people. they don't want to be left out.
‘USE IT’ What now?
WE are trying to create crutches because Harrison had a problem getting up from a low position to a standing position - it was hurting his arms.

My Writing term 3
My Writing term 3 years ago
If you don't know I'm About to do the worst thing in the history of worst things.
it all starts when I here the clock start to sing. Dong, dong, dong, the big hand strikes 4am. I wake up like a bear waking up from hibanition. I'm hungry really hungry. I'm not that tired any more. how about I just grab something small to eat.
I creep across the carpet and open a draw. I pull out my secret weapon. My socks. If you haven't realised my socks are stealth. I think they were made by the people the make the stealth war planes. Or at lest something like that. They are so silent you could hear a pin drop. So back to the story I snatch them out and yank them on. I scarry past the washing machine to get to the starting point for my ginormous journey across the hallway.
I take a step. So far so good. 1 down 19 more Floor boards to go. I carry on doing this for it seemed like hours. If I kept writing down every time I do this it would take up all the story so I'm cutting out that part. I finally get to my destination. the kichine door. I reach out to clasp the cold smooth handle. I slowly and corshisly open it. Creeeeeek! It wines as I pull it agar. My buddy starts to shake. This is when the fun starts.
I pulled open the pantry door. This is food Heaven. I start frantically stuffing food in my gaping mouth. Finally I'm not hungry any more. Right now to get back to my room. OH NO. my little sister start to cry. I've got to hurry I sprint back to my room. Every time my feet tuck the ground it sounds like I'm smashing simbles to gether. Oh my socks seem to be not working. I skid round the sharp coner my feet fell like there on a tread mill. I calaps in my bed. Arrrrrrrrr relieve I got away with it well just one thing don't tell any one.

Swimming Writing
WALT: entatane
Swimming Writing 14.8.14
My body starts to shake as the airy silence takes over me. Not a noise, not a sound, just silence. I glance to my left as Jacob turns to face me. he gives me a smiles. Then I put on my game face. Then every thing seems to slow down. My heart pulses in my ears. The hooter goes, I hurtle into the pool at lightning speed.
Thump! my stomach breaks through the surface. My nose is flaming with bubbles. All is can hear and see is frantic splashing coming up out of every direction. I taste chlorine in my gaping month as I burst the surface to gasp a breath of air. I'm exsorsted. My legs are burning and my thies are killing me.
I finally see the end of the pool rocketing towards me like a incoming fraught train. I start to slow down. "But I can't I say Keep going, just about there". Thwack! My hand smack onto the wall as my body comes to a screeching halt.
I burst up to the surfios for a much deserved breath. Cheers erupted. as a take my goggles. I glance over where the parents are all sitting. I see my mum jumping up and down. I blush as she put her thrums up at me. Then I turn and high five Jacob in the lain next to me. He's grinding from ear to ear. Then he exsclames. "we tied."

Writing Hiwi the Kiwi
Writing
Hiwi the Kiwi
Hey you, yes you, listen up. You and most people know how to fish but do you know how to fish properly and safely? It is vital you listen up because this could keep you out of jail and keep fish and chips going!
So let's get the point about fishing, it is definitely a fun and exciting sport but why in the world would you put big fish back in the sea? This is where it gets interesting. Why is. Because big fish may have babies in their stomachs and if you eat the fish you will kill the babies and the next generation of fish. Remember to put the big fish back in the sea and then you can wait until they get even bigger then you can catch them for your tea.
So now that we have talked about fish getting bigger and reproducing now we are going to talk about water safety and how to use and activate locator beacons.
Hey! don't stop listening this this is only the third paragraph. In your boat there should be a yellow milk bottle looking thing. In case of emergency you open it up and inside there is three flares and one locator beacon that looks like a tube thing. Go to the fourth paragraph to learn how to use a flare or go to the fifth paragraph to learn how to activate the locator beacon.
How to work a flare:
First you get the flare out of the yellow milk bottle thing. Then you hold it high above your head and pull hard on the bottom of it. WARNING Do not look into the top of the flare!
How to work the locator beacon:
This beacon is activated by salt water. If your boat capsizes the beacon will automatically start to flash and send a signal to the coastguard to come and rescue you.
Are you still listening? Don't forget I could still save your life! Hopefully this has taught you how to be safer around water and how to make sure future generations get to eat fish and chips. If you didn't pay attention to anything have said remember this one thing - always wear a LIFE JACKET when you are out on the water.

Ways that heat travels
Introduction:
There are three ways that heat travels radiation, convection and conduction.
Radiation is transferred by waves, convection travels by movement and finally conduction travels by touch. Three of the main ways that heat energy travels.
Radiation:
Radiation is heat that travels in waves. Think of the sun as a light bulb, warm it up until It is really hot then place you hands about 3cm away from it. You should be able to feel the ray of heat from the light bulb. This is called radiation. This is what the sun does to you on a hot day at the beach. This is how you get sun burn. That proves that the suns radiation is very powerful.
Conduction:
Conduction is another way that heat travels. It travels by touch. This occurs when something is touched against something else. Say that there was a battery and a black wire and a red wire both hooked to a battery. If you tuch the red end with the black end you will get a spark because of the conduction between the positive and the negative.
Convection:
The final way that heat is transferred from one place to another is convection. Convection takes place when heated molecules move from one place to another, taking the heat with them. Convection is common in both the atmosphere as well as in the oceans.
So in this writing I have told you the three main ways that heat energy travels.
